One- creeks and streams on a map will always be blue, even if in reality they're all dried up.
Two- water beetles/bugs are a real thing and I wouldn't suggest drinking their water.
Three- the art of listening is important. Topher and I ended up going about 2 miles in the wrong direction because one of us... (cough cough Topher...) insisted we go THAT way. Listen and always check your route with a compass.
We're still a little new to the through-hikes and longer camping trips, but we're quickly learning what not to do and how to cope with the challenges of the Texas wilderness. Can't wait to get out again!
