2.You will fail but you will also succeed. This is important to remember especially in the beginning. It takes a long time to make a name for yourself. Brand recognition does not happen overnight and no matter how many followers you have on social media, if your business serves a specific city or location, word of mouth happens, but it happens slowly.
3. Ask for help. This is one Topher and I still struggle with. It’s hard to ask for help when you feel like you should know the answer already. The truth is, there are so many answers to know that it would take more than a lifetime to figure them all out on your own. I call or email the comptrollers office every quarter to ask them questions in order to better understand the filing system or tax laws, no shame!
4. Notes and Lists are your best friend! Topher and I make a list every week for us and the business. You think you can remember which client wanted you to call them back tomorrow or what receipt you forgot to file, but sometimes you just don’t. I have a big note holder I keep next to my desk that I can easily write any notes on and it’s a lifesaver!
5. Set Goals! Set goals not only for your business, but also for yourself! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been more productive with the business when I set aside personal time to myself. Owning a business makes you feel like you are always on the clock… which you kind of are, but when I make the time for myself to read, workout, etc., I always feel more refreshed and productive once I return to work. Don’t just stop at weekly goals either! Set BIG long-term goals, and then mini goals that help you reach your big goals. And don’t forget to celebrate achieving your goals! Small successes lead to big accomplishments!
